Who We Are

At AM2T Lab, located within the premises of IIT Tirupati, we are dedicated to pushing the boundaries of materials manufacturing and tribology research. Our lab is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and staffed with skilled technicians and engineers who strive to deliver exceptional work. As we continue to grow, we are expanding our facility to accommodate additional machining and fabrication capabilities, allowing us to offer a wider range of material solutions through technological advancements.

Fabrication

Fabrication is one of our core strengths, and we take pride in our diverse capabilities. Our onsite facility houses cutting-edge equipment and machinery to support various fabrication processes. Our Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing System, featuring the Fronius CMT 4000 Advanced with ABB robotics and FLIR A615 thermal camera, enables us to additively manufacture metals like titanium, steels, and aluminum. Additionally, we specialize in techniques such as Stir Casting, Pressure Infiltration, Squeeze Casting, and Vacuum Die Casting, as well as employ an Induction Melting System and Twin Rolling Vacuum Arc Melting System. Moreover, our Compression Molding expertise further enhances our fabrication capabilities. Stay tuned, as we are excited to announce the upcoming addition of a Friction Stir Additive Manufacturing system.

Characterization

Characterization is a crucial aspect of our research process, and we have a comprehensive suite of equipment to evaluate materials. Our Complete Metallographic Evaluation Suite enables us to examine the microstructure and properties of materials with precision. We also utilize a Portable XRD for Residual Stress Measurement, which provides valuable insights into the structural integrity of components. For testing purposes, we have a Creep-Fatigue 100kN Testing Equipment to simulate demanding operational conditions. Furthermore, our Instrumented Micro Indentation Vickers hardness testing equipment allows us to measure the hardness of materials accurately. To evaluate tribological behavior, we employ a Universal Tribometer, which helps us understand the performance and wear characteristics of materials.

Software

In addition to our fabrication and characterization capabilities, we have a dynamic group of software engineers well-versed in various software tools. These professionals utilize software packages such as SolidWorks, ANSYS, COMSOL, Solid Cast, and Origin to model, simulate, and analyze materials and components. Their expertise contributes to the overall success of our research projects.

Processing

Processing operations play a vital role in material preparation, and we excel in metal and powder processing techniques. Our lab is equipped with advanced facilities for Heat Treatment, enabling us to modify the properties of materials to meet specific requirements. Additionally, we have a Planetary Ball Mill, a high-energy milling machine that facilitates the production of finely powdered materials.
